CURRICULUM VITAE:James M. Towarnicky, P.L.L.C. is a Virginia Professional Limited Liability Company engaged in providing legal services to the general public, with an emphasis in the areas of commercial and business law, lending law, real estate, and matters arising therefrom, such as taxation, commercial litigation, foreclosure, and bankruptcy. The firm was the outgrowth of Deutsch & Towarnicky, P.A., a law firm in Silver Spring, Maryland, whose practice specialized in all aspects of both commercial and residential lending and real estate law. Mr. Towarnicky established James M. Towarnicky, P.L.L.C. in 1995, following his association and partnership with a number of large District of Columbia law firms. Mr. Towarnicky is a graduate of the University of Denver College of Law and Gruaduate School of Business Administration, where he received both his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration Degrees in 1981. He received his Master of Laws in Taxation Degree from New York University in 1982. Upon graduation, he clerked for Chief Judge Howard A. Dawson, Jr., of the United States Tax Court, through 1984. Thereafter, he worked in the District of Columbia office of Foley, Hoag & Eliot, a Boston firm of which the late Senator Paul Tsongas was a partner. During his years there, Mr. Towarnicky participated in numerous commercial transactions including corporate mergers and spin-offs, sales of businesses, and syndications. Mr. Towarnicky then became apartner in the District of Columbia law firm, Haley, Bader & Potts until 1992. In 1993, Deutsch & Towarnicky, P.A. became a member of the United States Foreclosure Network, believed to be one of two such networks in the nation. He is the author of the Taxation Chapter of The Law and Business of Resort Development, published by Clark Boardman, and was a contributing editor to The Journal of Taxation Digest, published by Warren, Gorham & Lamont. Through his firms, he has served as local counsel to Bank One, Bank Plus, Chemical Bank, First Mount Vernon Industrial Loan Association, Lee Servicing Company, and certain local lenders in the District of Columbia metropolitan area. Such representation involved documenting and closing large real estate commercial development and lending transactions. Mr. Towarnicky is a member of the Ohio, District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland bars, and has passed the California bar examination. He is a member of the United States 4th Circuit District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland, and is qualified in the Bankruptcy Courts in those jurisdictions. He is also admitted to the United States Tax Court and Claims Court. Mr. Towarnicky received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in both economics and philosophy from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) in 1977. He is married with two daughters. |
